Loss Statistics

Approximately 1 in 4 women will suffer some form of pregnancy or infant loss.

  • Each year, more than 500,000 pregnancies end in miscarriage (occurring during the first 20 weeks).
  • Stillbirth (loss after 20 weeks) affects about 1% of all pregnancies
  • About 24,000 babies are stillborn in the United States every year. That averages out to about 66 per day.
  • That is more than 10 times as many deaths as the number that occurs from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome ("SIDS").
